Celtic Cross Necklace – Most Favored For Xmas
Mens white gold rings are some of the most high-class items that Orkney jewellery designers hand-make to order. And a Celtic cross necklace is probably the other most prized luxury items in those collections. But while mens white gold rings might be one hundred pounds or more, this week a global record was made for the most coveted private array of gems put up for sale at public auction.
During the summer months it had been publicised that Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry Collection would be sold by Christie’s in New York City. But never in the auction house’s wildest thoughts did it think the 269 items would sell for 74million.
The late screen goddess almost always wore a ring set with the 33.29 carat Elizabeth Taylor Diamond gifted to her by Richard Burton in 1968. It fetched 5,643,840, that’s 2-3 times above the guesstimate. But there were higher priced items.
Mens White Gold Rings – Only Made To Order
A 16th century pendant that had previously belonged to the Spanish noble household, featuring a amazing pearl droplet fetched approximately 7.6million. The pearl, later set into a diamond and ruby necklace, called La Peregrina, was bought for her by Burton in 1969. This had been estimated to be sold for up to 1.95million but was sold for 7.6m, an all-time for the gem.
The pear-shaped pearl was previously owned by Mary Tudor, whose mother had been the Spanish-born Katherine of Aragon, and later by Spanish queens Margarita and Isabel. La Peregrina, has long been portrayed in art work for hundreds of years and had been painted by the 17th century Spanish artist Velazquez. Burton picked up the pearl in 1969 at public auction for 23,800. The actress then requested Cartier to design a ruby-and-diamond necklace mount for that piece.
Excitement mounted within the auction this week the moment the first lot, a gold and gem bracelet worth roughly 22,500 sold for 174,000. In addition an ivory and gold necklace made more than 100 times its estimation of 1,300 at 203,000. A purchaser paid 387,000 to obtain a diamond and sapphire ring given to the actress by her friend the late Michael Jackson. The famed Taj Mahal diamond, an additional gift from Burton to Dame Elizabeth on her 40th birthday bash, sold for 5.7m, a record for any Indian jewel.
A a pretty tiara presented to her by her 3rd husband Mike Todd in 1957 fetched 2.7 million – about 6-8 times its appraisal. The record-breaking sale follows a pattern for 2011 of auction jewellery hitting much higher prices compared to estimates. A part of the revenue from this sale is going to The Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.
All of this definitely makes the cost of our own range of mens white gold rings very modest. They’re worn to proclaim marriages which by and large last a lot longer than Dame Elizabeth’s, who married eight times, including twice to Burton.
